When we look at the current trend of convergence, there are now phones that act more like tablets. These are often exclaimed as Phablets. Keeping up with the same trend, HTC too has launched its very own Phablet, the Droid DNA. Priced at $199.99 this phone is scheduled to be launched on 21 November. It is said to be a phone with many features that is Verizon based. Let us find out more about this Smartphone with this preview.
When we look at the shape and form factor of this phone it seems more the same. The only thing that sets it apart from other phones is the red highlights (Verizon) that adorn the 8MP camera and a strip above the screen. This makes it look stylish and trendy. This also seems more similar to the earlier version of Droid, droid incredible (4G LTE). Nevertheless, the design is good to look at and the phone will quickly catch your eyes in one glance. It is a well-crafted phone that is stylish too.
When we look at the back of the phone, the surface is soft touch and is polycarbonate based. This seems like HTC is more about incorporating the qualities of its previous phones that may sometimes remind you of HTC One X design. The rubber like coating is helpful in gripping the phone in your palm and providing a cushion like feel to it. When you hold it in your hand you may feel like it is a large Smartphone, still the sleek look will baffle you. Measuring at 0.16 inch this phone is thinner when we compare it to its rival Samsung Galaxy III.
If we go on comparing the form factor of these two phones then you will find DNA with relative sharpness and the metal trim a much more appealing look.
Droid comes with a 5-inch big size LCD screen. To protect it from scratches the technology of gorilla glass is used that adds to the charm of tablet like display. However, it does seem to lag behind when we compare the screen size to its rival Galaxy Note II measuring at 5.5 inch. Nevertheless, the display is huge and the screen is spread to the edge of the bezel, it gives a striking 1080p resolution and 440 PPI. This sure gives a large view and convenience in displaying content more clearly. This also adds up to a large viewing experience and gives this phone leverage over other Smartphones.
This Smartphone is powered with the latest version of Android, the Jelly Bean 4.1. The system is clocked at 1.5GHz (quad-core) Snapdragon S4 Pro-Processor with a powerful 2020 mAh battery. It has a 2GB RAM with a storage of 16GB. Additionally the inclusion of Sense UI (4+) is yet another surprise in the bundle for users to give them the convenience of a better and enhanced UI to work with. This UI comes loaded with enhanced features including the capability of copying and moving pictures between two different photo albums.
The performance of its 8MP camera is good if not all impressive. You can capture pictures just fine and the color display is good with all the details. The camera is supportive of a HD video chat, smile capture, face detection and shooting mode (HDR). To capture pictures quickly you need not go into the camera menu just reach for the quick- launch button and you are done. Additionally you can easily connect to 4G LTE data for which you still need to shell out a bit of extra cash.
Now to sum it all up it can be said that the HTC Droid is something that is definitely huge on style and sleekness when it comes to the design. The screen display of 5 inches is good to look at, the battery power is massive and the OS is the latest version available. However, to be able to predict the popularity amongst the technology users is not possible now. Already established Phablet rivals in the technology market like Galaxy Note it is difficult to say what fate will this new Phablet is to face in coming time. As for the final verdict, it is too soon to say how successful will it be in the technology market.
